"Se A Cabo" is a song written by Nicaraguan percussionist José Areas and
released as the opening track on side 2 of Santana's 1970 album Abraxas.
The song title was incorrectly rendered "Se A Cabo" instead of "Se Acabo."
It appears that somewhere along the line the title was transcribed by
someone who didn't know Spanish. "Se acabo" is Spanish for "it's over."
That's the entire lyric in the song, repeated six times. The words are
just a flourish - the song is mostly instrumental, driven by hand drums,
organ, and Carlos Santana's guitar.
Abraxas is the second studio album by Latin rock band Santana, released
on September 23, 1970 by Columbia Records. It became the band's first LP
to reach #1 in the United States. The album cover art features the 1961
painting Annunciation by German-French painter Mati Klarwein. The title
of the album originates from a line in Hermann Hesse's book Demian:
"We stood before it and began to freeze inside from the exertion.
We questioned the painting, berated it, made love to it, prayed to it:
We called it mother, called it whore and slut, called it our beloved,
called it Abraxas...."
