"I've Been Lonely for So Long" is a pop-soul song recorded by American
southern soul singer Frederick Knight in 1972. It was written by his
wife, Posie Knight, and Jerry Weaver. It was released as a single and
peaked at #27 on the Billboard pop chart and #8 on their R&B chart.
It was also released on his 1973 album of the same name.
Frederick Knight (born August 15, 1944) is an American R&B singer,
songwriter, and record producer. Knight recorded with Mercury and Capitol
in New York before signing with Stax Records in 1972. He had his only hit
single, "I've Been Lonely for So Long", in 1972. Lack of further chart
activity leaves him labelled as a one-hit wonder. However, Knight did
appear in the documentary film Wattstax, which was released in 1973.
Knight cut "I've Been Lonely for So Long" in Birmingham, Alabama,
with a seasoned southern soul crew behind him.
