"Had I Known You Better Then" is a song written by John Oates and
recorded by Hall & Oates as the second song on side 1 of their 1973
album, Abandoned Luncheonette. Daryl Hall was particularly satisfied
with the first side of the album, calling it the "magic" side
with every note "just right".
Abandoned Luncheonette, released in November 1973, is the second album
by the American pop rock duo Daryl Hall & John Oates. The LP combines
folk, Philly soul, and acoustic soul. The most commercially successful
of their Atlantic Records period, the album featured one of their first
major hits, "She's Gone", which found success after a 1976 reissue. The
regional successes the album achieved along with the success of a reissued
"She's Gone" were enough to push the album onto the Billboard 200 chart,
reaching #33 on November 20, 1976, and staying on the chart for 38 weeks.
