All I Wanna Be (Is By Your Side) is a song written by Peter Frampton
and released as the opening track on his 1971 album Wind of Change.
The recording includes a supporting cast of Spooky Tooth members
Mick Jones on rhythm guitar and Mike Kellie on drums. Rick Wills,
who is best known for his work with the rock band Foreigner,
would provide bass guitar.
In 1969, when Frampton was 18 years old, he joined Steve Marriott of
the Small Faces to form Humble Pie. After four studio albums and one
live album with Humble Pie, Frampton left the band and went solo in 1971.
Wind of Change is the debut studio album by 22 year old English guitarist
and singer Peter Frampton, released in the US on July 10, 1972. The self-
produced debut album was engineered by Chris Kimsey, who had worked
on Humble Pie's album Rock On. Frampton and Kimsey together introduced
a melodic sensibility that contrasted with the raucous boogie that
characterized the Humble Pie sound, with a particular emphasis
on Frampton's acoustic guitar work. The LP reached #177
on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.
