"Don Quixote" is a song written by Gordon Lightfoot and recorded as
the title song and opening track on his 1972 album Don Quixote. The
title track is a lyrical paean to Cervantes’ half-mad hero.
Don Quixote, the full title being The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote
of La Mancha, is a Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes. Originally
published in 1605, the novel is considered a founding work of Western
literature and is often said to be the first modern novel. The novel has
been labelled by many well-known authors as the "best novel of all
time" and the "best and most central work in world literature".
Don Quixote is Canadian singer Gordon Lightfoot's 8th original album,
released in February 1972 on the Reprise Records Label. The LP
reached #42 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.
