"Windmills of Your Mind" is a song with music by French composer
Michel Legrand and English lyrics written by American lyricists Alan
and Marilyn Bergman. It was originally recorded by the English actor
Noel Harrison in 1968 after Andy Williams passed on it. The song was
was introduced in the film The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), and
won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Jerry Wexler, president of Atlantic Records, heard "The Windmills of Your
Mind" on the soundtrack of The Thomas Crown Affair and championed
having Dusty Springfield record the song for her debut Atlantic album
Dusty in Memphis. On June 8th 1969, "The Windmills of Your Mind"
by Dusty Springfield peaked at #31 (for 1 week) and spent 8 weeks
on Billboard Magazine's Hot 100 Singles Chart.
Dusty in Memphis is the fifth studio album by English singer Dusty
Springfield. Initial sessions were recorded at American Sound Studio in
Memphis, while Springfield's final vocals and the album's orchestral
parts were recorded at Atlantic Records' New York City studios. The
album was released in March 1969 in the United States by Atlantic
Records. The LP peaked at #99 on the US Billboard 200 Albums chart.
