"I Won't Last a Day Without You" is a song by Carpenters with lyrics
written by Paul Williams and music composed by Roger Nichols. The
writing duo had previously contributed "We've Only Just Begun" and
"Rainy Days and Mondays" to the Carpenters. The song was recorded
as a track for Carpenters' 1972 album A Song for You, and was
released two years later as the LP's sixth and final single in the US.
It became a hit single for them in 1974, reaching #11 on the
Billboard Hot 100 chart. Williams himself later recorded
the song, as did Barbra Streisand and Diana Ross.
A Song for You is the fourth studio album by American music duo the
Carpenters, released on June 22, 1972. The LP peaked at #4 on the
Billboard 200 album chart. Six songs were released as A-side singles
internationally: "Hurting Each Other", "It's Going to Take Some Time",
"Goodbye to Love", "Top of the World", "I Won't Last a Day Without You",
and "Bless the Beasts and Children".
