"Nothing Is Easy" is a song written by Ian Anderson, released as
the opening track on Side 2 of Jethro Tull's 1969 album Stand Up.
In the lyrics, Anderson empathizes with the listener stating that
it’s a simple fact that every direction in life will require work, so
you’ve got to stick by what gets you through the times you’re
feeling down. For him, it’s his music, and he offers it to you
that it may serve you similarly.
Stand Up is the second studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull.
It was the first Jethro Tull album to feature guitarist Martin Barre,
who would go on to become the band's longtime guitarist until its
initial dissolution in 2011. The album was released July 25, 1969
and was #1 on the UK albums chart the following week, following up
on the success of the non-album single "Living in the Past", which
reached #3 in the UK singles chart on the day the LP was released.
The album was Jethro Tull's first success in the United States,
reaching #20 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.
