"Mr. Bojangles" is a song written and originally recorded by American
country music artist Jerry Jeff Walker for his 1968 album of the same
title. It has since been recorded by many other artists, including
American singer-songwriter Neil Diamond on his 1969 album
Touching You, Touching Me.
With today's rendition, "Mr. Bojangles" becomes the most played song on
SOTD. It was requested six times (Holly Forester, Joe Jannace, Joanne
Greiner, Nancy Reinhardt, Moira Quinn, and Holly Forester again) with
recordings by six different artists (The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Bob Dylan,
David Bromberg, John Denver, Sammy Davis Jr., and Neil Diamond)
making "Mr. Bojangles" the most popular Song of the Day.
Touching You, Touching Me is the name of Neil Diamond's fifth album,
released on November 14, 1969. It was the first one since 1966 to
feature renditions of other people's material as well as his own.
The album reached #30 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.
