"Border Song" is a song by Elton John with music by John and lyrics by
Bernie Taupin. The song initially appeared on the 1970 album Elton John,
and was released in the spring of 1970 as the LP's first single. It’s a
gospel-inspired piece that got little attention at the time. Although Elton
John says Taupin wrote the lyrics about his alienation to the London
music scene, the song is widely seen today as a song of tolerance
and acceptance. After failing to chart in the UK, it was released in
the US a few months later and became his first song to chart,
peaking at #92 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 1970.

Elton John, released on 10 April 1970 by Uni Records. The album was the
first release by John in the United States because Empty Sky was not
released in this country until 1975. The LP peaked at #4 on the Billboard
200 Albums chart and was certified gold in February 1971 by the RIAA.
It was also nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
